About

Think Performance is a performance psychology consultancy business run by Professor Stewart Cotterill. Stewart is a sport and performance psychologist with 20 years experience across a range of different sports at various levels from grassroots to elite in both amateur and professional sport. He also has experience working in other performance domains including the military, business, the performing arts, the emergency services, esports and with healthcare professions.


He is a Health and Care Professionals Council registered (HCPC registration number: PYL26803) practitioner psychologist, and a Chartered Psychologist (BPS). He is also an accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (BASES). His experience ranges from amateur through to professional and international sports teams, as well as local level through to Olympic performers. Stewart also has expertise working as a performance psychologist across a broad range of performance domains with amateur and professional performers in a range of associated fields.

He also supervises trainee sport and exercise psychologists in their final stages of full qualification. This is both for the BPS Qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology (Stage 2), and BASES Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route (SEPAR).

As well as being a sport and performance psychology consultant, He is also the author of a number of sport and performance psychology-focused books, and an active researcher in the area of sport and performance psychology (Researchgate).

Stewart is a past Chair of the British Psychological Society (BPS) Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology (DSEP), and was the Inaugural Editor of the Case Studies in Sport and Exercise Psychology (CSSEP) journal.
